President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his warm felicitations to retired General Alani Ipoola Akinrinade, an esteemed elder statesman and former military chief, on the occasion of his 87th birthday on October 3, 2026.

Lauding the celebrant, President Tinubu characterized General Akinrinade as a towering figure of national pride, an intrepid soldier, and a steadfast patriot who has devoted his entire journey to serving the Nigerian people.

The President highlighted that the General’s lasting contributions are indelibly recorded in the country’s history. These span an exemplary military trajectory that saw him attain the highest ranks in the Armed Forces, as well as his daring leadership within NADECO throughout the perilous struggle to reclaim the June 12 democratic mandate.

A distinguished veteran of the Nigerian civil war, General Akinrinade served with honor as Chief of Army Staff and later as Chief of Defence Staff before taking his bow from active duty.

President Tinubu remarked that the retired General chose to align with truth and justice at a time when doing so posed grave personal peril, consistently prioritizing democratic governance over authoritarianism and championing the public good over power. He emphasized that Akinrinade stands among the pivotal architects of the Fourth Republic, whose selfless sacrifices have earned the enduring gratitude of the nation.

Additionally, the President commended the elder statesman for his ongoing role in nation-building, serving as an enduring beacon of wisdom, calm guidance, and unshakeable belief in national harmony.

Joining the country in celebrating this milestone, President Tinubu offered prayers for General Akinrinade’s continued vitality, peace of mind, and many more years of meaningful impact, wishing him a joyous 87th birthday.
